Local residents, activists and people from further afield who love Leith Hill took part in a candlelit vigil and procession last night at the intended drill site on Coldharbour Lane.
Local resident Christine who attended the vigil said “we came here last night to show our strength of determination to protect Leith Hill from the unconventional oil industry. The planning battle might be nearly over but we’ve not given up, far from it”.
Europa Oil and Gas have planning permission to drill at the site after a long legal battle, but are still waiting for Surrey County Council to grant permission to bring construction traffic to the site, and also need an Environment Agency permit.
The Environment Agency have re-opened their consultation on the plans to drill and carry out an ‘acid squeeze’ at the site – members of the public can respond at https://consult.environment-agency.gov.uk/psc/rh6-6hn-europa-oil-and-gas-limited/
